CDL Refresher & Recertification
Coming back to the road after time away? Which program you need comes down to two questions: do you still hold your CDL, and how long has it been since you drove?

What every tier covers
Pre-trip vehicle inspections, backing skills, and on-road training, with a required evaluation at the end of the course. The TD Classroom program adds CLP training, updated FMCSR guidelines, logbook, and CSA updates, and its state test is taken at the end of the third week.
Only need your automatic restriction removed?
The 80-hour course can remove a restriction, but if that is all you need, our Manual Restriction Removal program is shorter and cheaper.
Common questions
Which refresher program do I need?
It comes down to two things: whether you still hold your CDL, and how long it has been since you drove. If you still hold your CDL and have five years of experience but have not driven recently, the 40-hour course is the fit. If you lost or gave up your CDL and have two years of experience, that is the 80-hour course. If you lost or gave up your CDL and it has been more than five years since you drove, you need the classroom component too — that is the TD Classroom + 80-hour program.
Why does the most expensive tier include classroom time?
If you no longer hold a CDL and it has been more than five years, you need a commercial learner permit again. The TD Classroom + 80-hour program covers CLP training, updated FMCSR guidelines, logbook, and CSA updates alongside the 80 hours behind the wheel.
Is the state CDL test included?
The TD Classroom + 80-hour program includes the state test, taken at the end of the third week. For the 40-hour and 80-hour courses the state test is an additional $350.
What does the training itself cover?
Pre-trip vehicle inspections, backing skills, and on-road training. Every course requires you to pass an evaluation at the end.
Can a refresher course remove a restriction from my licence?
Yes — the 80-hour recertification course covers removing a restriction, including the training and the restriction-removal evaluation. The state CDL test remains an additional $350. If removing the automatic restriction is all you need, our dedicated Manual Restriction Removal program is the shorter and cheaper route.
